all forms of sexual offence (rape, gang rape, sexual assault, trafficking and child’s marriage) are under the bill, and if the rapist infects the victim with HIV, they would receive a life sentence. 👏🏻👏🏻

From where I am sitting, you are either trying too hard to live, or giving up too easily on life. I want to tell you that it is alright to be 'okay' and not fantastic. I want to tell you that you would be a queen one day, and when you do become one, you would be sitting where I am sitting. Nothing else would matter. You are powerful, you are sexy, you are strong, you are naked, you are clothed, you are always enough. Fuck whoever says otherwise, literally and figuratively. Something in the news that really struck me last week was the backlash that Margaret Atwood received about the article she wrote in the Globe and Mail entitled 'Am I a bad feminist?' It's a controversial article in which she writes of her concerns about the movement. Before I get any backlash myself, I want to make it very clear what (as far as I understand it) her main points are. . She acknowledges that the movement is 'a symptom of a broken legal system' - one where women, all too often, face sexual harassment and are failed by the institutions that should protect them and gain justice from for them. So, we turn to the internet - a new tool for seeking the justice we cannot find elsewhere. . What she then goes on to say is that she is concerned about where such a movement might go next, writing about the dangers of 'vigilante justice', in which people are seen as 'guilty because accused'. She cites the UBC Accountable letter as a key example of how the public can turn against someone without waiting until the report of the trail and evidence are available in order to make a considered judgement. I don't really have the space to go into this here, but I urge you to read what she has to say on the matter. . I am fully in support of and and stand in solidarity with all women who are saying no to inequality. But I also stand in support of Atwood, who I do not think has 'betrayed' anyone in voicing concerns over the way certain people behave online. It's so easy to read a headline and write a vitriolic comment in response, without having read the full article or considered the writer's perspective - and those who treat Atwood in this way are living proof of how a positive movement can become toxic if we don't keep our heads and talk to one another. Surely feminism is about solidarity, discussion and positivity. If we turn against other women who are simply sharing their concerns, where does that leave us? . Have you read the article? What did you think of it? . . . #feminist
