Introducing Kundurwanda! I adopted this baby mountain gorilla for my colleagues.Reason is two-fold: 1. Adopting will provide a commonality amongst my peers 2. Highlights animal conversation and the extinction of animals.#christmastime#karisoke#dianfosseygorillafund#racingextinction#teambuilding#lookatthoseeyes#kundurwanda

The Giraffe, beautiful beyond compare…They maybe 1669711546685901510

The Giraffe, beautiful beyond compare…They maybe one of the planet’s most iconic species, but even this spotlight has not spared them from the same challenges faced by many other creatures across the planet. Three decades ago, in the 1980s, the total number of all giraffe in Africa was estimated at approximately 155,000 individuals, this is in stark contrast to current estimate of about 100,000 individuals. This is a drop of almost 40%. In some areas traditionally regarded as prime giraffe habitat, numbers have dropped by more than 95%. . At times, iconic creatures like Giraffes become victims of their own fame and popularity. Because they are commonly seen in documentaries and because of their tall stature easily found while on safari, it gives the false perception that they are thriving or that their population is stable, when the reality is quite the contrary. We have to put efforts forward and raise awareness about the plight of this incredible species.=====•=====•=====Fun Fact: Both giraffes and humans have seven neck vertebrae. The difference, however, is that each giraffe neck bone can be over 10 inches long. =====•=====•=====Repost @faizelismail_photography#giraffe#africa#wildlife#wildanimals#wildandfree#wildliferescue#worthfightingfor#racingextinction#startwith1thing#awareness#education#conservation#compassion#protection#rescue#animal#animallovers#animalsofinstagram#animalwelfare#animalprotection

Anyone else want to scoop up that little thing and 1669709828942333575

Anyone else want to scoop up that little thing and run away with it?Gahhh!#repost@dswt・・・Tiny Toto has stolen all our hearts, but Sala is particularly smitten. Despite the fact that she barely got to know her own mother – Sala was orphaned at just one week old – the kudu’s maternal instincts are strong and she has taken it upon herself to look after Toto. The baby dik-dik loves all the attention and is becoming rather spoiled! We are currently raising Sala and Toto at our Kaluku Field HQ. When they’re old enough, both orphans will be reintegrated back into nearby wild herds, but between now and then, we foresee lots of pampering in their futures.•www.thedswt.org•••Video © David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust#dswt#sala#saladswt#toto#totodswt#kudu#dikdik#antelope#whyilovekenya#kenya#africa#magicalkenya#conservation#saynotopoaching#racingextinction#jointheherd#worthmorealive#kaluku#kalukufield#dswtat40

#repost@dswt(@get_repost )・・・#tbt , 1970: David and Daphne Sheldrick were saving orphaned elephants before the DSWT even existed. In 1970-71, Tsavo experienced a devastating drought that claimed the lives of as many as 10,000 elephants — including Sobo’s mother. When David and his rangers saw the young calf standing over her deceased mother, they rushed to her aid and were miraculously able to save her. Years down the road, Sobo was at a watering hole with other orphans when she spotted a visiting herd and rushed to join them, trumpeting exuberantly. She was enveloped by the elephants, who were clearly her long-lost family members, and after a euphoric reunion Sobo returned to the wild with them. We count her as one of our earliest successes!•David and his commitment to wildlife inspired us to found the DSWT in his memory 40 years ago.
