Her performances are the very things you tell your children and grandchildren about. Her collaborations are legendary. Her work is the gold standard of tap dance. Her style is elegant. The way she moves and dances is often imitated... but never duplicated. She is beloved. Respected. Revered. Admired. Superlatives are hardly enough to describe Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards (@dormeshia). She is one of this generation’s living legends of tap dance. She dances, she leaves you in awe, and she leaves an indelible memory to take with you for the remainder of your life. She is simply one of the very best. Happy birthday, Dormeshia. @dormeshia @omaredwardsnyc dance

Labels are nothing more than errant projectiles in the wind. They are aimed at each of us, meaning to pierce our souls and transform us into something we have no intention of being. Stereotypes are nothing more than “Hello My Name Is” badges that are supposed to stick to us but just fall off of our chests every time we try. If there’s one dancer whose life has been defined by labels and stereotypes, it’s Amanda LaCount (@amandalacount and @amandalacountlive). And by that, I mean that she has shattered every single one of them. As you could probably tell, Amanda is not your typical dancer. A native of Fort Collins, Colorado, but now living in Los Angeles, she has become famous across the Internet for her body-positive messages and her inspirational hashtag . This hashtag is more than just that. It’s her way of life. It’s her reason for being aside from dance. It has become who she is, and it is a message that has made her the toast of the dance world. What has made Amanda famous are her forceful and authoritative hip hop dance videos. Her abilities defy all logic and human comprehension, and that’s primarily because of the countless hours of hard work and immense perseverance she has put into her dancing. Her work has also earned her the attention and respect of Katy Perry, who cast her in the music video for her song “Swish Swish!” Hip hop is not Amanda’s only love. She is adept at all styles of dance, including tap! She is incredibly talented with the taps! What makes Amanda unique is not just her logic-defying talent, but her personality. She’s positive, uplifting, and she has a great sense of humor! It is a personality formed by her excellent attitude and her positive outlook on life. One thing’s for sure... Amanda is EXTRAORDINARY. I have no doubt that as time progresses, she will not only continue breaking stereotypes. She will obliterate them. Happy birthday, Amanda! @amandalacount @amandalacountlive dance
