It takes a lot of work to make beautiful batik - the artisan buys white fabric from a local market, wash it several times, hand-paints beeswax onto the fabric to create their own special design, dye the fabric in indigo for 3 weeks to 6 months depending on how dark they want the color to be, and then put it in hot water so the wax will come out and show their design. Unfortunately this technique is not being passed down to new generations and will one day soon be a technique of the past. Learn more at wildtussah.com
